Jake Paul has competed in 14 professional boxing matches, but after suffering the second loss of his career roughly five months ago against former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, his future in the sport is now uncertain.
Paul was stopped in the sixth round of that bout and revealed during a recent appearance on “The Ariel Helwani Show” that it might have been the last time he ever stepped into the ring.
The 29-year-old suffered a serious jaw injury in the fight and is still recovering. Paul said doctors told him they never want to see him box again as he awaits additional scans to determine whether the healing process is progressing properly.
“I’m getting some new scans in a couple of days, of the jaw, to get an update on the healing process,” Paul said. “We’ll see what the doctors say. I think I’ll be able to get a more accurate timeframe, or can I even fight again? That is definitely in the realm of possibility.”
Paul added that while the injury has improved over time, his boxing future remains unclear.
“It does feel a lot better as weeks go by, but I definitely need to get cleared to be able to spar,” Paul said. “Yeah, my fighting future is in doubt. Most definitely.”
Paul also revealed that the jaw injury created issues with his teeth as well, which could further complicate his recovery timeline if he does attempt a return to boxing.
“There’s a tooth missing here,” Paul said. “I’m pretty sure I’m gonna have to get an implant of some sort. We’re just going to have to see and figure out what’s the smartest thing for me.”
