Hearts Melt at the First Place Dachshund Puppy Runs Every Night at Bed Time

A dachshund’s nighttime routine is melting hearts on TikTok, after a video showed the tiny pup sprinting straight toward his favorite place: his crate.

Owners often debate crate training, with some viewing crates as restrictive, while others say they provide dogs with a sense of structure and security when used properly. For Truffle the dachshund, there’s no question where he stands.

In a February 2 TikTok video posted to the account @truffletheweenie, his owner begins filming Truffle’s evening routine. Truffle looks up at his owner, patiently waiting for the bedroom door to open. After a few slow steps and sniffs, Truffle’s mind shifts, and he takes off sprinting through the room with his ears bouncing and tail wagging with purpose. He leaped into his crate, as he does every night, which is decorated with his name hanging on the outside.

The owner bent down with the camera to show viewers Truffle darting toward the back, turning a tight circle like he’s done a hundred times before, nestling himself into the blankets with a satisfied little plop. Within seconds, he’s settled—completely content, completely at ease.

While other dogs might resist bedtime, especially young ones who never seem to run out of energy or those that linger for one last cuddle, this dachshund finds comfort in retreating to the place where he feels most protected. Creating a schedule and ensuring dogs have adequate sleep are important for their health, and luckily, Truffle needs no convincing for sleep.

Pros and Cons of Crate Training

Crate training has long been a point of debate among dog owners, but experts say its impact largely depends on how it’s used. According to the American Kennel Club (AKC), when introduced properly, a crate can tap into a dog’s natural instinct to seek out small, den-like spaces, giving them a place to relax and feel secure. It can also be a useful tool for house training and establishing a routine, especially when paired with positive reinforcement. Many owners choose to make the space more inviting with soft bedding, crate covers, or enrichment toys to help their dogs associate it with comfort.

However, the AKC stresses that crates should never be used as punishment or for prolonged confinement. Dogs who spend too much time crated, or who are forced inside without proper training, may develop anxiety, frustration, or negative associations with the space. Instead, the organization recommends gradually building positive experiences so the crate becomes a safe retreat—something Truffle the dachshund appears to have embraced wholeheartedly.

Viewer Reactions

The TikTok video had reached over 1.8 million views, 192,800 likes and 1,198 comments as of Tuesday, with viewers split about the use of a dog crate, but a majority fell in love with Truffle’s precious reaction to bedtime.

“Our dog will put himself to bed in his crate if we stay up too late,” wrote a viewer, while another said: “So true, they love to have their own space, just like we do.”

A third person commented: “That sweetie would be next to me in my bed! I know I’m a big softy! Our dogs like their crates but love sleeping with us.”
